Day 1 Recap

We made it!  We are safe and sound and enjoying every second of camp so far!  We stopped off at Lake Mendocino for a quick lunch break and then… just as we were approaching camp… we were ambushed!  Some scary looking pirates and a monkey (we’ve since been told he is a bonobo monkey) threw water balloons at our car!!

The campers have been doing very well, getting to know their counselors and cabin mates.  These are pictures of each cabin today.

We had a little bit of free time before dinner.  Right before dinner, some of the cabins did their cabin cheers.  Below is the Zulu cabin.   Dinner tonight was delicious home-made pizzas.  We also had dirt-cup pudding for dessert complete with gummy worms!

We had our first session after dinner.   Zach lead worship and Paul taught us all about anchors.  Our camp verse is Hebrews 6:19. God gives us promises as a “strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.”

After our evening session and cabin small group time we played Counselor Hide-and-Seek, which means the counselors were hiding and the kids had to find them.  It is definitely an honor if you can make it through the whole game without being spotted. Out of the 16 counselors hiding, the  kids found eight!  When the game was over we had a short time around the campfire and then off to bed!

Here are the counselors just before they went to hide:

While the counselors were hiding, the kids waited in the gym.

And finally, we got to sit around the campfire...

I had to go into Ukiah to post, so I'm not sure if I will be able to post again.  I will possibly be able to update this afternoon, but for sure tomorrow morning.
